Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery with a special interest in Lower Limb Arthroplasty predominantly Knee Arthroplasty with an interest in revision surgery. This post will also include participation in the trauma service.
This post is permanent and applicants should be on the GMC specialist register or, within 3 months of the interview date, have a certificate of completion of specialist training. Applicants must have FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent and would ideally have appropriate subspecialty fellowship training.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will become a member of a large and highly rated musculoskeletal unit which currently has 41 Consultants covering the whole range of subspecialty interests. We also have an extended multi-disciplinary team of extended scope physiotherapists and advanced nurse practitioners.
This post will help shape and provide the lower limb arthroplasty service. The successful candidate will join the existing knee/hip team in providing knee/hip arthroplasty surgery and develop speciality interest as per the service needs.
The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit.
About us
The trust has one of the busiest Emergency departments in the country seeing over 150 000 new patients per year. It is also one of the largest arthroplasty centres performing around 2000 lower limb arthroplasties per year. Increasing complex and revision work is being referred to Leicester for specialist management. The successful candidate will be a member of the general on-call rota (1 in 16) providing trauma care and contribute to the lower limb services respectively.
There are great opportunities for research and teaching. The University Hospital is a major acute teaching hospital trust. Close links exist with local Universities and NHS Trusts. The Trust is an active partner in the local regional academic and clinical networks. The post holder will be expected to help supervise and support Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery Specialty Registrars based in the region.
